You can come into the trial if you meet the criteria below:

You smoke tobacco cigarettes daily

You are aged 18 years or over

You have been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Your COPD is stable (i.e. no exacerbations, hospital admission or use of antibiotics or prednisone in the past six weeks)

You live in the Auckland region

You have access to telephone (mobile and/or landline)

You are keen to make a quit attempt with Champix
-
You are prepared to receive phone calls form a member of the study team, offering advice and support around quitting smoking and staying smoke free

You have tried, but failed, to quit smoking on at least two separate occasions using nicotine replacement treatments (NRT), such as patches or gum
-
You have tried previously to quit smoking using Zyban (also known as bupropion) or Norpress (also known as nortriptyline)

You are prepared and able to provide written consent to take part
